    Deposition: Matthew Ashwell. Cardington. Labourer. 5 November 1670. Met Ed. Lavender and advised him to restore the horse and money he had stolen from his master Sir Geo.Blundell. He did not see Lavender again. 'Sir Geo.Blundell will prosecute the said M.Ashwell for not apprehending of Lavender.' The examination of Matthew Ashwell of Cardington labourer taken before Robert Crompton JP on Nov 5th 1670. This ex. saith that on Michaelmas day last past being at Shefford faire in the County aforesd, he ther met with Edwife Lavender (now prisoner in the Goale of Bedford for takeing away an horse and some moneys from Sir George Blundell of Cardington) and then this ex. asked the sd. Lavender what was become of his masters horse and money that he tooke away from him and did advise the sd. Lavender to restore the same to Sir George Blundell againe if he had them and this ex. further saith that he did not see the sd. Lavender noe more that day and further this ex. saith not. Note: Sir George Blundell will prosecute the sd. Mathew Aswell for not apprehending of Lavender.
