Title
Deposition: Richard Ashton. late of Welsbourne, Warwickshire. Chapman. 9 March 1671.
Came with his wife and children to Hockliffe, where she gave birth to another child. He does not know where she is nowife Came to Dunstable fair and Hitchin market to look for her. Saw one James Hopson there. The examination of Richard Ashton late of Welsbourne, Warcs., chapman taken before the same JPs on the same day. This ex. saith that his habitation is at Welsbourne in the County of Warwicke aforsd, and that he is by profession a Chapman, carryinge a packe of wares to sell, and that about a quarter of a year since, he came from Welsbourne aforsd. and about eight weeks since he together with his wife and children came to Hockleife in the county of Beds to the signe of the George; where his wife fell in Travell, and was brought to bed and lay there about a month which time she went from thence with four children; but where his sd. wife and children now are this examinant knowes not, And further this ex. saith that he hath been up and downe about the country ever since he parted from his wife; And came yesterday to Dunstable fayre thinking to meet his wife there, and that he was at Hitchin market the day before to looke for his wife, where he see one James Hopson; and further this ex. saith not.
