Fr. Seayes, Woburn. 4 July 1670. Lost a piece of 'lockorum' at Woburn Fair. Thomas Briant said he suspected Joane Pierce to have stolen a piece of cloth from him. When searched about 9yds. white bone lace of Richard Smallbones were found on her, also a sharp pen knife. Richard Smallbones. Bow Brickhill, Bucks, The lace Fr. Seayes found on Joane Pearce is his. The deposition of Fra. Seayre of Wooburn in the County of Beds taken upon oath before St. John Chernocke Bart. J.P. on the 4th July 1670 This dep. saith that on Saterday being the second day of July being Wooburn faire day this dep. Lost a peice of Lockorum about forty or fifty ells and presently missing of it he acquainted one Thos Briant with it who acquainted him the sd. dep. that a woman that passed by who confesseth her name to be Joane Pearce had like to have stole a peice of cloath from the sd. Thomas Brant where upon the sd. deponent apprehended her upon suspition that shee might have his cloath and searching of her found about her nine yards of white bone lace of one Richard Smallbones of Bow Brickhill in the County of Bucks and a sharp pen knife in her bosome and further this deponent saith not. The deposition of Richard Smallbones of Bow Brickhill in the County of Bucks taken upon his oath before the same the same day. This dep. saith that the lace that Fra. Seayre found upon Joane Pearce is his which lace was taken away from him on the second day of July being Wooburn faire day which lace the sd. Fra. Seayre found within the crowne of the hat of the sd. Joane Pearce and further this dep. saith not.
