    3 weeks ago while driving coach between Dunstable and Hockliffe on road to London, 3 persons unknown on horseback assaulted the passengers. One William Hungerford who was killed at Stanbridge, was one of them. The Information of John King of West Smithfeild in the parish of St Schepulcres London, Coachman taken upon oath before me Francis Wingate Esqr one of his Majesties Justices of the peace for the said county of Bedford on the twelfth day of May Anno dni 1670 Who sayth that about three weekes since he being driveing his Coach between Dunstable & Hockleife in the Road to London, there met him two men Unknowne to this Informant the one upon a Chesnut Colourd Mare the other upon a Browne Gelding; which said persons comeing up to his Coach, did assault the passengers who were in his Coach, and from one woeman as the said woman did tell this Informant they did take away fourty shillings, and shot a man that were then in his Coach and di search this Informants Pockets but tooke noe money from him, only a knife; And further this Informant saith that since his Coach was soe Robed, there was a man whose name was aid to be Mr William Hungerford, who was suspected to have beene a Robber was kild in the apprehending at Stanbridge in the said County of Bedford, And this Informant goeing to see him, knew him to be one of the men who had Robed his Coach; And further deposeth not.
