John Poole, Fenny Stratford, fellmonger 11 May 1670
Robbery on 2 May, coming home from 'Owbourne' [Woburn] by three men unknown. Man who was killed at Stanbridge on 5 May was one of them. The information of John Poole of Fenny Stratford Bucks fellmonger taken upon oath before Sir John Napier Bart. and Wm Spencer Esq. J.Ps on the 11th day of May, 1670 This informant saith that upon the second of this inst. May he was robbed and much abused going homeward from Owborne by three men to him unknowne one of them riding upon a black horse And that before they robbed this informant they seized upon his wife and pulled off her hatt and sware that if she spake a word they would stabb her, And afterwards the said three persons assaulted and beat this informant and dragged him up and downe by the haire of the head and tooke from him four poundes and some odd money but the iust number of shillings above four pounds this informant doth not knowe, And further this informant saith that after the sd. 3 persons had taken away his money they did beat him and sware they would kick his gutts out at his mouth and afterward one of them drew his sword and sware he would kill this informant and also drew out a pistoll and swore he would pistoll him if ever he saw him againe or should heare that ever he viz. this informant should ever speake word to man woman or child concerning what was now done unto him And also this informant saith that the man who was killed at Stanbridge in the parish of Leyton Buzzard in this county of Bedds upon the 5th of this instant May was one of the three men that did robb him And further this informant saith not.
