    Deposition: Thomas Carter, Ampthill, labourer 11 Jan. 1670. As in Cor. Inq. 13. More detail on fight. Whittamore was taken to 'The Bell', Ampthill. This examinant of Thomas Carter of Ampthill laborer taken the 11th Jan. 1669 before Charles Dymoke gent coroner of the sd. Liberty of Ampthill. This examinant sayth That on Munday the 10th of this instant January hee this examinant togeather with one Richard Arnall was in the Warren att Ampthill aforesd. about three houres before day and then and there mett one William Evans and asked him where he had been, Who answered about noe hurt to them and they lett him passe away, and they this ex. and the going on a little further in the Warren found a hay pitched. and hee this ex. went to take it upp and presently thereuppon Ambrose Whitamore came and stroke this ex. three blowes two on the head and one on the hand witha long staffe whereupon hee this ex. stood in his defence and then the sd. Evans came in and strok att this ex. and the sd. Whitamore sett uppon the sd Richard Arnall and then hee the sd. Arnall stroke down the sd. Whitamore and Evans ran away and this ex. and the sd. Arnall brought the sd. Whitamore to the Bell in Ampthill and delivered the hay Seven coneys which they took upp with the sd. hay togeather with a long staffe which they tooke from Whitamore into the Cunstables hands and further hee say nott
