    Bridget Chamberlain of Susan Chambers, midwife. 22 Sept. 1668. Mary Chambers/Chamberlaine aged 7 going to school with Charles Mordant. The severall informations of Bridget Chamberlaine wife of Thomas Chamberlaine of Eaton Socon, labourer. And of Susan Chambers widow a midwife of the said towne, taken upon oath before me Gaius Squier J.P. 22nd Sept. 1668 The said Bridget Chamberlaine saith that her daughter Mary Chamberlain being a child of seven years of age and going to schoole with Charles Mordant upon Friday last she perceived her said child goe lamely, and asking what she ailed, and the cause she went in that manner, the Child made answer, that her Master meaning the said Charles Mordant tooke her and held her under his armes and put his hands under her coats, and expressed to this informant that the said Charles Mordant had very much abused her in her secret parts, and that he held her soe fast that she could scarce take her breath, and could not crye out; And then this informant searching the said child perceived she had been abused, and she saith some matter issued from the child and continueth soe still, and that the child is swelled in those parts and cannot sit downe, though oyntments have been applied to the said child, And this informant saith she believed the said Charles Mordant ravished her said child. The said Susan Chambers saith that about three days after the child of Thomas Chamberlain was abused and hurt by Charles Mordant (as was reported) she went to see what condition the said child was in, and viewing the childs body she found the child had been medled with in her privy parts, and perceived the same to be bloody, and something that must come from a man she saw about the child and about her shift, and she believeth the child had been ravisht.
