Saw Eliz.Nunn in her close between the ringing of the two first peals to morning service, and later in hen house. The Examination of Susan Browne the wife of Paule Browne of Melchburne carpenter upon oath taken by Jn Neale of Nether Deane Esq., JP on March 7th, 20 Charles II in the case of Eliz Nunn of Stanwick, Northants who is suspected of murdering her bastard child. The sd. Susanna Browne saith that shee saw the sd. Eliz. walking in her close upon the first day of this present month of March in the forenoon betweene the ringing of the first two peals to Morning Service and Heard her making a great muttering and moaning to herself as she walked and soon after as she was milking in her Cowhouse a good distance from her henhouse, shee heard againe a muttering and a moaning in her henhouse but in neither place did she hear her call for help, nor could she understand any word she said; after the shower was over which fell at that time she saw the said. Eliz. going through her yard away with something in her lapp wherefore the sd. Susan hearing that she was a very theevish woman, and might have some of her goods in her lapp, went to her to see what she had therein, the sd. Eliz. refused to let her see, answering that she had nothing in her lapp but her things, and a little hay to put in her shoes; whereupon she snatched the corner of her apron whereupon it a little opened, and by that means she saw some parts of a naked child, that is, one arme and one shoulder and that the child did seeme to be borne at full time, and was very white and lay crumpled up together in her lap with a little hay about it. whether it was alive or dead the sd. Susan cannot tell but was much affrighted at the sight, upon which the sd. Eliz. stared in her face and away she went through the closes shee knows not whither.
