    Matt. Bartle, John Gregory, Jer. Peck 1668 Matt. Bartle 13 Jan. 1667/8 -- Sold sheep to bro. Thomas Bartle, from Mrs. C.'s flock. John Gregory: Is servant of Mrs. Cockayne of Cockayne Hatley; missed sheep from flock; went to Wrestlingworth and found that Thomas Bartle & Jeremiah Peck had bought 2 ewes and 4 lambs of M.B. Jer. Peck, Thomas Bartle -- As to purchase of sheep; did not known they were Mrs C.'s. The examination of Matthew Bartle taken before Walter Cary Esq. JP the 13th day of January, 1667 The examinant saith that about five weeks ago he sold one Lamb to his brother Thomas Bartle for 4s and 6d. and he changed 2 couples with him more for 4 ewes (wch. sd. 4 ewes John Gregory had of him in satisfaccion of four and twenty shillings which he owed him). That the sd. lambe and couples were part of Mrs Cokaine's flock whereof he then was and now is shepheard and not his own goods. The information of Jn Gregory taken upon oath before the sd. Walter Cary Esq., 13th day of January, 1667 This informant saith that being servant to Mrs. Cockaine of Cockaine Hatley he misst certaine sheep out of her flocke, and hearing that some such sheep were at Wrestlingworth he went the last week thither and found that Thomas Bartle and Jeremie Peck had bought two ewes and four lambes of Matthew Bartle his sd. mistresses shepheard, that upon sight he beleived them to be his mistresses goods and that the sd. Mathew stole the same. The information of Jeremie Peck & Thos Bartle taken likewise upon oath before the sd. Walter Cary the day and year abovesaid. These informants say that Matthew Bartle abovesd. sold one lamb to the informant Thos Bartle, and one other to the informant Jeremie Peck and changed two ewes and two lambes with the informant Thomas Bartle for 4 ewes: but whether the sd. lambs and couples were his owne or Mrs. Cokaine's they know not.
