    Andrew Raymond, Potton, innholder 4 Sept. 1667 Found gold, silver thimbles etc. in pocket of servant Thomas Johnson; latter confessed to breaking into Mr. Kinestons house Potton, while family were in London. The Information of Andrew Raymond of Potton innholder taken upon oath before me the 4th day of September A.D. 1667: That the informant found in the pocketts of Thomas Johnson his servant a peice of gold of ten shillings, two silver thimbles, some small peices of ribband, a bugle-purse which the said Johnson said he had in Mr Kineston's house where into he broke on Thursday night last. That the said Mr. Kineston's family has been removed out of the said house for five weeks last past, only a servant of the said Mr. Kineston's comes thither every Saturday, goes back to London every Monday and has done so ever since the said family removed. That the said. Mr. Kineston's servant on Friday last told this informant that his master's house had been robbed, that three or four boxes, a trunk and a cupboard were there broken open, & that a suit of clothes was missing. That the said Mr. Kineston's house so robbed as abovesaid is situate in Potton in the county of Bedford. That he knowes not that ever the said Johnson did steale anything before or was suspected for any such matter. And further saith not. The examination of Thos Johnson taken the sd. 4th day of September, 1667: This examinant saith that on Thursday last about eleven o clock at night he broke into the house of Mr. Kineston in Potton, that he staid in the sd. house about two hours, and did then take out from thence one piece of gold, two thimbles, one band, two or three ribbands, one suit of clothes & one paire of stockings. That the same night he hid the said clothes and stockins in a hay-mowe at his Master Raymonds. That nobody was with the said examinant in the said robbery nor advised him to it, nor received any of the stolen goods. And further saith not. signed Walter Cary one of his Majesties Justices for the Peace for the said County. Thomas Johnson confesses as above.
