    Deposition. Richard Silby, Kempston, shepherd 10 Sept. 1666 Found 5 sheep of Richard Dennis in Bedford field when Robert Wright was driving them (3) to Bedford market. Sold them to John Foster of Cardington. Sheep then strayed back to Kempston & were impounded. Robt. Wright, Kempston, shepherd. 10 Sept. 1666 -- Fortnight before harvest 5 sheep came into flock of John Amps of K., on 4 Sept he took 3 to Bedford market. The Information of Richard Silby Shepard of Kempston in the county of Bedford, taken upon oath before William Boteler Esq., one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for the said county the tenth day of September, 1666. This Informant saith that about nine or ten dayes after whitsuntide last past Richard Dennis of Kempston lost five white ewe sheep; and goeing to Bedford this Informant found out three of the said five sheep in Bedford field as he came to Bedford market in the possession of Robert Wright of Kempston Driveing the said sheep to the market to sell; and sold them to Mr. John Foster of Carington ; which sheep after a short time strayed back againe to the towne of Kempston and were impownded. The said Mr John Foster came and demanded the three sheep and said he bought them of Robert Wright of Kempston; the other two sheep which were in the said Wright's possession before he came to Bedford strayed away from the said Robert Wright to Kempston from whence they were taken and there was impownded and seised by the Lord of the Manor and further this Informant saith not. The Examination of Robert Wright of Kempston, shepard, taken before William Boteler Esq., one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for this County of Bedford this tenth day of September, 1666. This Examinant saith that about a fortnight before harvest five sheep came into the flock of Mr. John Amps of Kempston and upon the fourth of September last he brought three of the said sheep to Bedford market to sell and sold them to a person whome he knew not and the other two hee left with his flock in Kempston field and that he had for the three sheep that were sold twenty shillings and further he saith not.
