Arithmetic exercise book of H R J Swaffield, Belvidere House Academy, Stratford. Begun 8th November 1853. At the back a draft letter to Mr Parmeter explaining that Mr Swaffield i.e Samuel is in the south of England but that H R J has 'sent him full particulars of the accident, 15 Sept 1859' also some lettering practice and a sketch of a sailing boat. Found within the volume: letter Samuel Swaffield to Mr Pringle 'My son will pay you the Quarters Acct if you like. I must still hold the understanding between us good to remove my boy without further notice at the end of the quarter if I think right to do so. There is a fulness about the head that we do not like and have been advised to keep him from excitement as much as possible.' 3 May 1859
