BARA file covering the closing stages of the Roskill Commission and its aftermath, consisting of correspondence about BARA strategy and contacts, including, amongst other things, the following:
- letter from Chairman of Wing Airport Resistance Association apologising for WARA's advocacy of Thurleigh as the best site for an inland airport and asking for BARA's help following the Commission's recommendation of Cublington as the best site; with BARA Chairman's positive reply and subsequent correspondence;
- letter from Robert Westley (BARA noise consultant) about BARA's victory and other matters;
- decision to maintain BARA's office in St.Peter's Street until the Report was published;
- The Times article "Government may prefer Thurleigh site" with BARA chairman's answering letter;
- BARA memorandum to the Committee of MPs pledged to oppose any inland site;
- notes on the factors which told against Thurleigh and for Cublington in the Commission's decision to recommend the siting of the airport in the latter parish;
- concern of BARA chairman at the number of anti-airport associations becoming involved in the campaign against the Cublington site - "they are all nutcases!";
- list of the main points expressed by BARA to those MPs and Lords against the siting of the airport at an inland site;
- correspondence with Michael Noble, President of the Board of Trade about opposition in North Bedfordshire to an airport at Thurleigh;
- BARA reaction and those of its allies to the Government decision to site the airport neither at Thurleigh nor Cublington;
- winding up of BARA and distribution of the remaining money to The National Trust and the Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire Preservation Societies.
