  • Title
    Abstract of the title to copyhold hereditaments and premises situate at the Rectory Manor, Stotfold, Beds, making up part of the estate of Mr. James Albon, deceased. Drawn up by Charles Veasey of Baldock, solicitor. (Recital I) Surrender dated 6th Oct 1864 between (i) Ann Smith of Baldock, Hertfordshire, widow and Mary Dilley of same, spinster and (ii) James Albon. Operative: In consideration of 540 (i) surrenders (a-b) to (ii). Property: (a)Two messuages formerly one tenement. (b) Close of pasture belonging to (a) of 1a 3r 32p (previous estimations being 2a 3r) to which MD and AS were admitted tenants as assigns and coheiresses of William Dilley at a court held on the 10th Aug 1842. Habendum: To the use of (ii) subject to the customs of the Manor. (Recital II) Surrender and admission as at Z1116/1/2 (Recital III) Will of James Albon dated 25th Mar 1869. Appointing his wife Elizabeth Albon and his brother John Albon executors. Bequeathing all real estate and residue of personal estate to the said trustees upon trust to permit his wife to enjoy profits from such estates subject to any mortgages secured on the property. Giving said brother option of having a piece of ground purchased by him from the representatives of Mrs Dilley. After the decease of his said wife, his brother is to sell his real estate and convert into cash upon trust that the proceeds should be divided amongst all his brothers and sisters. (Recital IV) James Albon died on the 3rd Nov 1885 and his will was proved by his trustees on the 3rd Dec 1885. (Recital V) Mortgage dated 18th Oct 1888 between (i) Elizabeth Albon, widow and John Albon (ii) Elizabeth Albon and (iii) Charles James Veasey of Baldock, Herts, gentleman. Reciting: - Will of James Albon as at recital III - At the time of James Albon's decease his property in the Rectory Manor, Stotfold was subject to a mortgage of 60 plus 4 nominal costs in favour of Samuel Veasey of Baldock, solicitor then since deceased and the executors of his will have requested payment. - Lord of the Rectory Manor, Stotfold required (ii) as trustees to the will of James Albon to take admission to the manor and the fine and fees payable in respect of such admission would be 36/3/3. - (ii) had no monies to discharge the recited debts of 64 and 36/3/3, however, they were still willing to protect the said hereditaments against seizure so applied to (iii) for a sum of 115/19/3. Operative: Mortgage from (i) to (ii) in consideration of 115/19/3 with interest at 5 per centum per annum. (i) covenants to surrender (a-b) to the lord of the Manor after their admission. Property: (see a-b in recital I) Habendum: To the use of (ii) upon condition that if (i) repays the sum with interest, the surrender shall be void. (Recital VI) Admission as at Z1116/2/10 (Recital VII) Conditional surrender as at Z1116/2/11 (Recital VIII) John Albon died at Stotfold on the 3rd Dec 1894. (Recital IX) Elizabeth Albon died at Little Hampton on the 22nd Aug 1907 in testate leaving John Harris of 6 Elm Avenue, Long Eaton, Derbyshire her eldest son and heir at law.
