    Depositions, apparently relating to the felling of trees and the digging of stone in the king's or queen's waste, apparently in the neighbourhood of Clophill:- Robt. Moss: hath known trees felled by the King's woodward; hath always known the waste in question called the king's waste; remembers a pain laid at the king's court against the cutting of furzens, when they were grown high the king's steward making a title to them; the inhabitants of Clophill carried away the firs; the inhabitants of Beadlow meddled with none; many hundred loan of stone were digged for building Sir. Ric. Conquest's house, apparently by leave of the king's steward; Trustram Heath: hath always known it called the queen's waste and the king's waste; hath been amerced 3 or 4 times at Barton leet while it was the king's manor for digging sand for Mr Charnock; since the manor was Mr. Beverley's Mr. B. hath divers times carried away his sand and once took away his shovel and spade; Wm. Sawyere: hath known trees felled in divers places of the waste in Clophill by appointment of the king's woodward; digged stones about 9 or 10 years ago on leave from Mr Charnock's bailiff; had his stones carried away by Mr. Beverley; also statements from Thos. Dennis, Paul Wilson, Ralph Bland.
