    Memorandum that John Vere, Count of Oxford, holdeth and ought to give in relief to your lordship 38 10s. for 9 towns and pastures' Paper roll; list, apparently of property held by the Earl of Oxford, first in other counties, including Bucks., and then in Beds (Edworth, Arlesey, Everton, Clifton, Chicksands), apparently with the object of distraining on the Earl 'as yet I cannot come to a distresse on them'. Note reference to the abbot of Woburn who answered that 'it was given to his house frank and free as he findeth in his books by one Wm. Paslowe above 400 years past'; also the abbot of Warden, who 'hath a warren and saith he will pay none, but an your lordship be pleased I can stress there.' n.d. ? early C16.
