Inquisition taken at Ampthill before the Bp. of Lincoln
and others by royal commission under the great seal for
redress of misemployment of lands etc. given to charitable
uses according to the statute of 27 Oct. 43 Eliz.:
by the oaths of:- Thos. Paternoster, Thos. Cowper, Mat.
Venton, Jn. Impey, Thos. Prior, Brian Cowper, Clem.
East, Jn. East, Jn. Cumberland, Jn. Cranfield jr., Wm.
Prior, Jn. Hanscombe, Thos. Howson jr., Thos. Coleman jr.,
Walt. Mead, Jn. Cole, Jer. Pearce, Wm. Savage, Wm. Blith;
who say:-
that lands anciently given for charitable uses, namely
to maintain a minister or curate in Over Gravenhurst, and
for the repair of the steeple and bridges, and for similar
uses, were until 20 Eliz. so employed; they are valued at
40 marks p.a.; of this 3 has been devoted to such uses,
but the rest has been taken by Hen., Earl of Kent, and
misemployed by him;
the lands consist of the manor of Shephoo, and the following:
a tenement in Over Gravenhurst & close, 2 ac., abtg. on Campton:
pightlek 1 ac.;
2 closes (Stockin closes), 8 ac., abtg. N. on Cainho Park;
2 closes (Schephoo closes), 6 ac., abtg. N. on Gravenhurst
road to Whattwell bridge; and Shephoo road;

brook; and adj. Mill balk;

Whattwell bridge;
1/2 ac., 11 ac., 1 ac., in South Field alias Church Field;
