Title
Correspondence: Letter to Earl de Grey
from John Humphries.
Has obtained information from Mr. Currer and Mr. Elsley about
proposed line through Clifton. Mr. Hudson commands
the whole Company. 'My ideas at present are that
any Line between the parliamentary one and Bootham
Bar, would be much more objectionable than the
original Line, in as much as it would destroy the
Rural retreat from the City to Clifton, and consquently
be exceedingly objectionable to Mr. Currer and other
most respectable Inhabitants living south of the
parliamentary Line.' Reckons that Mr. Russell's
opposition to line might be removed by a large
compensation for his house. Will get plans and
papers from Smeathall.
