Letter to Christine Dillingham of Kings Road, Flitwick from the British Red Cross and Order of St John, Enquiry Department for Wounded and Missing; Dear Madam We enclose two reports which have reached us about your husband although they do not tell you anything fresh, but we think you will wish to see them as they will show you that according to every informant, Pte. Dillingham received all the care it was possible to give him, and that when he lost his life the Stretcher Bearers who were carrying him must have been killed too, or someone would surely have told what happened in the end. We are deeply sorry to leave you in this uncertainty but we fear that we are not likely now to be able to learn anything more than we have told you, for the reasons given to you in our last letter. We can only say how sincerely we sympathise with you Note: on the back of the letter reads [other report missing] Havre Lincs 7 A II Dillingham R No 42041 W. unoff M. 25th Nov 1917 Sergt Major Neil could give all details of Dillingham as he left two S/Bs behind to bandage him up. I saw him wounded by a shell as we were going back on being relieved. Shelling was very heavy and we could not stop to help him. Fair hair, 5 feet 6 or 7, about 30 medium build, clean shaven, he joined us in September from the Kite Balloon Section, R.A.F Inf; Pte J. Simms No. 32127 Lincs. &. A.I
