- Scope and Contentcomprising (a) the Dragon or Green Dragon with yard, orchard and garden formerly occ by James Dennis, then John Palmer and John Mowbray, then William Coombs or his undertenants (b) half acre of pasture or garden ground adjoining the above formerly occ by John Smith alias Lyant, then John Mowbray, then William Coombs or his undertenants (c) site of Mansion House long since pulled down but which had been called Hassetts (d) 4 acres of meadow nearby called Hassetts Close or Mooreys Close (e) 2 and a half acres pasture used as garden ground formerly called Chappwell or All hallows Close (f) site of a cottage, next to above, long since pulled down, with a little piece of ground (g) a little piece of ground with appts formerly occ by Richard Nightingale Abstracts will of John Thurloe Brace, dated 25 February 1735 and proved at PCC 17 June 1737, leaving the property on trust to Joseph Biscoe of the Inner Temple, London to give to JTB's wife the rents and profits for her life, with the proviso that she pays JTB's son Harris Thurloe Brace 80 pa while HTB is at Oxford, and afterwards 100 pa while he lives at the Temple or other Inn of Court in London. And after JTB's wife's death or remarriage, the property is to go to HTB and his heirs for ever Abstracts will of Harris Thurloe Brace, dated 9 January 1799 and proved at PCC 19 January 1799, leaving the property to his nephew Rev James Wadman Alexander of Rayne [Essex] and his heirs for ever Abstracts Lease and Release dated May 1806 between 1)JWA, 2) Caroline Greenhill and 3) John Alexander deceased and Rev William Greenhill of Trinity College, Oxford Recites marriage treaty between JWA and CG wherein JA and WG become trustees of the property. If, on death of JW, there are children of the marriage, CG is to receive 150 pa from the property until her death, after which the property will pass to their children; or, if there are no children, CG will have the property in trust until her death, then it will pass in trust to JA and WG for the benefit of the heirs of JWA Abstracts Lease and Release dated February 1836 between 1) WG of Farnham [Surrey], 2) JWA and Caroline, now his wife and 3) Thomas Gwyn Elger, builder of Bedford and John Elger, builder of Grosvenor Square [Middlesex] Abstracts JA died c.20 December 1830, and property was sold by WG with consent of JWA and C his wife to TGE and JE for 3700 Abstracts Indenture dated 1836 between 1) George Peregrine Nash, common brewer of Bedford and 2) TGE and JE, wherein GPN agreed to indemnify TGE and JE for the annual rents for the whole of the 9a land and all other hereditaments not sold by them to GPN Recites Enclosure Act and Award of 1797 subjecting the land to annual rents to the vicar in lieu of tithes TGE and JE declare no right of dower Related Material For earlier deeds relating to the Green Dragon see PE 61-63 and 66-69.
