Earliest description:
- Cottage in Middle Row, Leighton Buzzard, formerly of John Marshall, for many years since divided into two tenements one of which "for a long time past" had been an inn called Cross Keys in occupation of William King and James Sharpe, then Henry Samuel and William King; with toft on which part of the premises had stood in occupation of William Flemons, since John Layton then bounded out by stones from Market Place near Cross
1845 Lease description:
- brick and tile messuage called Cross Keys, Middle Row, Leighton Buzzard in occupation of Richard Samuel (later William Greening) with other part used as a shop and dwellinghouse in occupation of John Drage (later George Claridge) with toft of land adjoining shop on which a cottage once stood [with yard and garden on other side of street behind other properties and held with Cross Keys, containing stable, brick and timber built barn and range of brick and slate calf cribs - see Z1118/1/3]
Later description:
- brick built, tiled messuage or public house called Cross Keys in Middle Row or Market Square, Leighton Buzzard, with dwelling house and offices adjoining and brick built and stuccoed also with toft or paved square adjoining and dwellinghouse and Market Cross (used on Market and Fair Days as Calf Market) [with yard and garden on other side of street at N end of Market Square and held with Cross Keys with brick built and tiled granary, stable and other outbuildings erected on the yard - see Z1118/1/3]
