Title
Court plea, Westminster, before John Wilkes. Charles Nicholls, attorney, defends Thomas Wilkinson, yeoman, late of Clifton against John Phillips, gent, one of the attorneys of the court, in a complaint of trespass. Hilary Term [January] 1740.
John complains that Thomas, on 9th June 1738 at Clifton made a promisory note jointly with William Halpenny to pay him [John] 5.14s. But Thomas has not paid it and refuses to do so. Thomas, through his attorney Charles Nicholls, denies this and throws himself on the country. The verdict is to be delivered on Tuesday next.
At Bedfordshire assizes the jury is respited until Wednesday next 13th March [the rest is illegible].
