  • Title
Letter Refers to a Mr Dawson who he suggests is a most eccentric character. Doesn't know anyone who now knows Mr Dawson and has never come into contact with him, himself. Suggest that he is not noticed by any other neighbouring clergy. He believes the "advowson" was on the market after having been purchased by Mr Dawson and, if this is the case, there is no harm in asking the price. He presumes that Mr Dawson of Clapham purchased it and presented it to his son. He thinks it is better for it to be yielding interest than remaining locked up. Then refers to a Charles Carter. Says he was in the employ of Grant and Lawford at Leighton Buzzard and afterwards of Mr Hogg at Biggleswade as a corn buyer and clerk. He then went to Shefford as a brewer on his own account. He is "clean and quiet in his business" but apparently talks too much in times of "political excitement" - inconsistent with his station in life and to his detriment. Mr Bennett has never heard anything to his discredit.
