Letter Reads- Mr Bennett has sent Mr Hutchinson's letter on draining - "he remains plain and to the point". There is nothing new in his practice which very closely resembles that adopted at Woburn - his recommendation as to depth and distance is accompanied by the words "according to the nature of the sub-soil" (Mr Bennett always knew that) but it does not warrant Mr Hutchinson's condemnation of the "5ft deep men and their system" which is certainly not one of the cheap class of drains. Mr Bennett discourses at some length on various types of drainage.
