  • Title
Letter This letter concerns a property on sale at Stevington and asks Mr Haedy to advise the Duke as to whether he should buy it. It adjoins the property purchased from Lord Spencer. It is copyhold and comprises 85 acres. The relevant details are set out in this letter. Mr Bennett gives his opinion that it is not worth the Duke's while to purchase it - poor land, poor farmers and a poor population. The letter discusses the corn rent adjustment proviso and points out that Mr "Corn" Bennett may be satisfied with it but he points out that he is one of the last men whose judgement should be relied upon and he can ill afford the time to go from one meeting of agitators to another.
