- TitleLetter Reads- The Revd Tylecote has approached Bennett about the proposed school at Marston. The Duke has promised 40 and an additional sum if the school were to receive pupils from Lidlington. He now needs definate propositions regarding his wants and support. His first idea was merely a schoolroom now he plans a masters house in addition - requiring at least 500. Mr Allington has given a site and a promise of 100 if necessary. His Grace may be expected to make an additional offer which should be on condition that at least 20 Lidlington boys could be accommodated. Bennett suggest that as each village cannot have a school, encouragement should be given to a Dame School in each like the one in Lidlington which has been successful under the guidance of the curate. Then one good school could be available for bigger boys of 7 or 8 from different villages for a year or two before going to work. One at Ridgmont could take from Crawley, Steppingly and part of Lidlington, and one at Aspley Guise from Woburn Sands and Mount Pleasant. Ridgmont would probably depend on the Duke but there are resident landowners who could support the others.
