- TitleLetter Reads- Mr Bennett has spoken to Woodcroft who says the practice was to give the men money or beer as they preferred - if beer the underkeeper went to Woodcroft for a written order to the nearest publican. Woodcroft paid for the beer and then billed it as money paid to the individual. This practice was considered to be bad "as it brought the underkeepers and the labourers in contact more than they need to be". He instances in great detail the sort of malpractice which consequently arises. The letter encloses Miss Carter's acknowledgement of the abatement to be made. Also encloses Logsden's note on returning the receipt on a stamp. He did not take an oath that he only received 20.12.0. for the dog cart.
