    Letter Reads- Forwards propectus of new London and Birmingham railway and preliminary announcement of London and Northampton. If this can follow the turnpike road it will probably be supported by the owners of property in towns and villages affected. The turnpike roads are generally fifty feet wide allowing plenty for both and income from tolls is inadequate to meet expenses and maintenance. Will pay Mrs Chapman the 50. Has forwarded a report for the Duke about an assault upon a man in the woods at Cople in which the gamekeepers were accused of encouraging the man who was found trespassing. Has received an application from the Duke of Northumberland's forester for cutting of some willows for a collection. The harvest was somewhat better than expected but the quality of grain is bad. Will Sir Robert Peel repeal the Corn Law? The newspapers think so and the farmers are pessimistic as their leaders and former 'friends' are dropping off one after another.
