- TitleLetter Reads- As the Duke is Lord of the Manor of Chesham Bois, Bennett thinks he should consent to an application for a piece of the common for a site for a school; a quarter of an acre would be ample. As patron of the living a donation of 10 seems appropriate if a building is really necessary. From the smallness of population he would doubt it as there is probably a Dame school where children have straw plaiting and the older ones could go to Chesham or Amersham. It is also hard to see how a school would be maintained if built unless the Rector "is a man of some fortune" as the children's weekly pence will not pay a mistress.
