- TitleLetter Reads- Encloses plan of land to be conveyed to the Ampthill National School, bounded on the east by the Ampthill to Bedford Road and on three sides by the Duke's land at present occupied by Robert Furze junior, about a third of an acre. The magistrates have had their attention drawn to the high proportion of game offences, 143 out of 201 committals in three months. Next winter "will not pass without much mischief". One man was killed a few nights ago on Brickhill Manor when there was a fight between poachers determined to get hares and two watchers when "one watcher was so mauled that he died in two days". There has been no haymaking, a short harvest and a desperate part of the population subsist on poaching. "It is not so bad with us just now, though scarce a night passes without some hares being shot, but as soon as the fellows get out whom our keepers have in jail, a perfect regiment of watchers must be kept in constant pay to watch the game".
