Letter Reads- Mr Hacker has made an agreement for the carriage of coal from Bedford at a price much less than the carter charged him. Mr Bennett told Mr Palfreeman of this in case he wanted to do the same but he was not interested. He discusses comparative prices. He then describes a public meeting in Bedford(at which he was not present)for the Manchester Rail. He says that Mr Murdoch made a violent attack on the Duke and Mr Whitbread - hasn't learnt why. Mr Isaac Elger replied. He thinks it shows a lack of "common prudence and decency" to attack people who have not interfered with their plans, particularly the proprietors of the two largest estates in the County whose estates lie on the line if the scheme should proceed - perhaps it was done to gratify some "would be great folk" and thus gain their support.
