Letter to Robert Butcher from Thomas Woodward Reads- I know the low opinion you have of attorneys in this town (Bedford) and suppose you would like to know of someone you could with satisfaction emply in His Grace's affairs, i.e., a son of Mr. Palmer of Ickwell. He has nearly finished his clerkship at Windsor with reputation & intends to settle here. My acquaintance with the family gives me an opinion of their integrity, good sense and prudent economy; and from what they say of this young gentleman I have a favourable opinion of him. If you approve, he will wait on you. It is a pleasure to see the Marquis (since his relation to the militia) behave with so much prudence, good temper & diligence. If the same pains have been employed in the several counties, we may hope they will contribute to our security from foreign invasion. Compts. to Mrs. Butcher. Transcript available
