Letter from Andrew Way of Bridport to Robert Butcher of Bedford House Reads- I send my account for one year ending Lady Day 1739. I would have been sooner but Mitchell's executors have been slow in settling his affairs. I have proposed to such of His Grace's tenants who hold their estate by a single life, that they take reversion leases, but don't find them inclineable. It is a general custom in this Countrey for all landlords that Lett Estates at a yearly rent to pay all rates and taxes and all reparations, so that the clear rent is generally very small.
