Deed packets to properties owned by North Bedfordshire District Council at the time of their registration with the Land Registry. The deeds being considered archives once the land had been registered.
Scope and Content
Many of the properties were acquired for redevelopment work within the town and therefore the deeds often relate to property boundaries and to a landscape much altered by subsequent developement of roads and housing within Bedford.
On arrival at Bedfordshire Archives the packets were arranged alphabetically by place and a box list was produced to enable discovery and use prior to full cataloguing being carried out. The original Deed Packet numbers were quoted on the box list. This number has been used when individual packets have subsequently been catalogued in full.
The bulk of the collection still awaits full cataloguing.
Archival history
The bulk was transferred to Bedfordshire Archives by the then North Bedfordshire District Council (later Bedford Borough Council) in 1995.
