- TitleConveyance between 1) Francis Taverner esq of Hexton, Herts and Richard Taverner, his son and heir 2) William Clerke, son and heir of John Clerke, yeoman, late of Barton deceased for 218 8s from John Clerke to (1) in 1641 - a) 13 ac 2r 20p arable in Great Field otherwise West Field, and which were in 1641 in one furlong within that field called Brooke furlong in Higham Gobion, but are now abutting on Chappell furlong E, the brook between Higham Gobion and Barton W, the lands of Henry Fuller N, and land of Richard Taverner called New Ditch Corner and of Elizabeth Brace S, all lately enclosed by John Clerke with quicksett hedges and ditches and divided into 2 closes of which one at present is pasture and the other arable - Recites 1641 Francis and Richard Taverner and Richard's wife Martha late deceased leased a fine at the Court of Common Pleas to Henry Fuller, John Clerke and Elizabeth Brace, widow, and the heirs of Henry, of 80 ac land and 20 ac pasture in Higham Gobion, which recites several indentures of 15 Oct 1641 in which some parcels of this land were said to be to the use of Henry Fuller and his heirs and others to the use of Elizabeth Brace and her heirs. As to the 13 ac 2r and 20p, this by another indenture between (1) and John Clerke dated 15 Oct 1641 was to the use of John Clerke - Recites indenture 8 Nov 1641 in which the 13 ac was sold by (1) to John Clerke before 6 credible witnesses, and John and William Clerke have since then received the rents without lett or interruption - Recites John Clerke died September 1651 and it cannot be discovered where he deposited the indentures and deed of feoffment, or what has become of them, so (1) hereby confirm the sale of the 13 ac Witnessed by Robard Woodward, Edward Haddock (H his mark), John Griffith
