    ABSTRACT OF TITLE of John Armstrong. Recites (1) - lease and release 21 and 22 January 1788 between 1) John Armstrong, yeoman of Houghton Conquest, son and heir at law of Charles Armstong, gent, late of Houghton Conquest, decd, who was the only son and heir of Thomas Armstrong esq formerly of Houghton Conquest by Frances his late wife, both decd, 2) Edward Emery, gent of Blunham [lender], 3) Edmund Estcourt esq of Lincolns Inn Fields, Middlesex, 4) William Watkins, gent, of Bedford. John Watkins was seised in tail general and (2) had that day lent him 400 [other recitals illegible]. Property - Cottage in Houghton Conquest occ by William Young, afterwards Henry Seabrook and since then made into a workhouse and let to the parish officers of Houghton Conquest, - 3ac close of pasture adjoining called Workhouse Close, formerly occ Thomas Clark, bounded W by Thomas Wild, E John Risby, N Thomas Wild, and S by the common street, - another cottage formerly occ Samuel Cook then John Dyer bounded W by the last cottage, E the cottage sometime of John Constable, S the highway, with all houses etc. Recites (2) - Exemplification 1788 - Demandant is Watkins, tenant is Estcort, voucher is Armstrong. Property - 6 messuages, 6 gardens, 30 ac land, 95 ac pasture, 5 ac wood in Houghton Conquest. Recites (3) - Assignment of mortgage 24 March 1798 from Edward Emery, yeoman of Willington, only acting executor of the will of Edward Emery, gent of Blunham, his late father, to John Staines, gent of Biddenham. With additional 200 loan from John Staines to John Armstrong. Recites (3i) - Edward Emery the father died 6 March 1792, leaving Edward Emery the son and Samuel Wells, common brewer, of Biggleswade executors of his will. Recites (4) - Assignment of mortgage 1802 from John Staines, gent of Bedford, to William Hanger, yeoman of Radwell. Recites (5) - Assignment of mortgage 1814 from William Peacock, yeoman of Bromham, surviving executor of will of W Hanger, deceased, to John and Joseph Morris esqs of Ampthill. Recites (5i) Mary Hanger died in the lifetime of her husband who himself died soon after, his will pro 28 August 1813. Recites (6) - mortgage 1823 between 1) John Armstrong 2) Joseph Morris of Ampthill for 500 years on Workhouse Close containing 1ac 3r 27p, tenement and garden adjoining containing 10p, and tenement and garden adjoining that containing 17p. Recites (7) - assignment of mortgage of 400 in 1838 from Martha Morris, widow, of Ampthill, executrix of Joseph Morris decd, to Martha Roy, widow, of Bedford, on premises as in last item. Recites (7i) - Joseph Morris' will dated 3 July 1836 in mistake for 1837, prov 4 August 1837 PCC. Recites (8) - indenture 1 May 1842 between 1) Martha Morris 2) Martha Roy 3) John Armstrong, and Philip Armstrong, farmer of Graffham, Huntingdonshire. Recites (8i) - John Armstrong paid off 600 with interest on 13 April 1821 to John & Joseph Morris. Recites (8ii) - John Morris died 1827. Recites (8iii) - John Armstrong paid off 400 to Martha Roy on 24 December 1841. Recites (9) - will of John Armstrong 7 June 1841 - To daughters Mary Ann Armstrong and Althamiah Armstrong 400 each on attaining 21 years, and if one should die her share to go to the other, if both should die the legacies should lapse for the benefit of the owner of the estates, - To friends Charles Armstrong, farmer, of Wootton and William Armstrong, farmer, of Hawnes, his personal estate and messuages, tenements and lands, on trust to provide from them 52 a year to wife Mary Armstrong, with power of sale. 'To the use and intent and purpose that his wife Mary Armstrong should her natural life have and receive thereout a clear yearly rent or annual sum of £52.00 by 4 equal quarterly payments on the days therein mentioned. Power is to said Mary Armstrong to distrain for said rent charge if unpaid for 21 days after the day of payment on any part of said messuages , tenements and lands and hereditaments (except such part or parts thereof as should have been absolutely xx and disposed of under the power of sale thereafter continued). ' Executors: Charles, William and Mary Armstrong as above, will pro 19 June 1843 at Bedford.
