See also Parochial Ledgers - PUAPApart from PUAL 1 an analytical ledger arranged weekly with payments in five columns and recorded back to PUAL 2 the ledgers are arranged under various headings, which vary at different times. Some of the headings noted are as follows but this is not a complete list: General fund, individual parishes, individual tradesmen, (e.g. bakers, shoemakers, etc.), relieving officers, treasurers (a local bank), `in maintenance', establishment (salaries, furniture, stationery and printing), clerk, out relief, balances, migration, invoice, clothing, building account, Exchequer Loan Commissioners, provisions, registration account (merely payments to registrars of Ampthill and Shillington districts), valuation accounts (e.g. Houghton Conquest, Millbrook, etc.) parish property accounts (e.g. Lidlington), Bedford Asylum account (under Thos A Green, Esq), funeral account, vaccination account, etc.N.B. On checking through the ledgers it was found that the information was duplicated in the minute books (PUAM) and in various financial records (PUAF). Owing to the great bulk and duplication, only the early years and in the main, census years were kept, the remainder were destroyed in April 1982.
