Moreton House School was opened in 1864 by Mrs Bennett, who continued as its headmistress until 1887. It was situated in Dunstable, on the corner of West Street and Victoria Street. There was only one pupil initially, but numbers increased rapidly, and the school catered for both boarders and day girls. From 1887 to 1895 the Misses Herington were Headteachers, followed by Miss Herington alone until 1901, when she was joined by Miss Grace Everest, who carried on the headship alone after Miss Herington's death in 1909. After her departure in 1919, Miss Taylor took up the post. In 1925 the school was transferred to Cassiobury Park, Watford, to become a comparatively short-lived school for boarders only. Many former pupils transferred to Luton, Leighton Buzzard or St Albans. [See Bedfordshire Magazine Vol 25 No. 196 pp 149 - 151]
