Photograph of W.E.Sowter in Mayoral dress with a number of leading Bedford figures (all male). The photograph was taken outside the Bedford Modern School. Photographer unknown. Almost certainly the photograph was made to commemorate a dinner held by friends of W.E Sowter " in appreciation of the diligence & urbanity with which he had fulfilled the duties of the Mayor of the Borough during a period of two years."The newspaper account in the Bedfordshire Times of 24 February 1922 lists many of the people who were there.The dinner was for men only. The ladies appeared for an entertainment afterwards.
