(I) Mortgage in fee dated 2 Dec 1886 from James Woodward Hill to Thomas Barnard and Frederick Stanley Carpenter, both of Bedford, bankers, to secure sums of £6300 and £4800 and interest, of the land as in Z892/6 [inter alia]
Recites that by an indenture dated 31 Aug 1882 made between
James Woodward Hill, Elizabeth Page [of Kempston, widow], and Thomas Barnard/Frederick Stanley Carpenter, in consideration of £8500 paid to JWH by TB/FSC with the approbation of Elizabeth Page, the land comprised in the 3 schedules to that deed were granted to TB/FSC in fee to secure the loaned consideration subject to equity of redemption, the rate of interest on the loan being £5% pa.; that at the date of (III) £6300 of the loan was owing; Indenture dated 1 Dec 1886 made between the parties to the 1882 deed securing an additional loan of £4800 on the same premises.
