messuage etc late in occupation of John Carrington and cottage adjoining in occupation of John Cooper - 2 cottages, stables and close of pasture late in occupation of Denis Herbert and now of George Herbert all in Shortmead End, Biggleswade, adjoining each other to which said Denis Herbert was admitted tenant at a Court on 29 and 30 October 1765 on surrender of William Crowley [?] by description of--- messuage in which Christopher Foster inhabited in Shortmead Street, Biggleswade, lately converted into 3 --- 1 close or pightle of pasture adjoining (1åa) and extending from messuage to common river, then in occupations of William Crout, George Clarke and Samuel Soal, at yearly rent of 4d ---cottage in Shortmead End formerly Thomas Goods' and sometime in occupation of John Kettle, then Denis Herbert and now of Thomas Grantham, clerk to George Herbert to which Denis Herbert was admitted tenant at Court held on 15 and 16 April 1766 and 21 May, on surrender of Samuel Wright -(yearly rent of 2s) cottage or malting in Biggleswade, in Langford End adjoining Back Lane leading from Holm, formerly in occupation of John Mann, maltster, and now Ellis Firby, baker, and Samuel Wells,brewer to which Denis Herbert was admitted tenant at Court on 26 and 27 April 1768 on surrender of Richard Taylor, elder - (yearly rent 2d) cottage in Shortmead Street, Biggleswade, called the Black Swan - piece land belonging in occupation of Richard Richardson - cottage standing near and made out of a stable belonging thereto late in occupation of Thomas Dalton to which Denis Herbert was admitted tenant at Court on 24 and 25 October 1769 on surrender of Austen Drage -(yearly rent of 2s) messuage in occupation of Mr Willis, woolstapler - close meadow or pasture behind extending back to the river - 7 roods meadow in Long Mead otherwise Rhee mead in Biggleswade E commom W the river - 2 pieces meadow (1a 1r) to which Denis Herbert was admitted tenant at Court on 7 and 8 May 1802 on surrender of John Robinson, Esq. by description of --- copyhold messuage called the Wrestlers Inn in Biggleswade late in occupation of John Tilcock, afterwards divided into 5 tenements in occupations of widow Mills, John Millward, John Culver, Sperry Cupis and Robert Reynolds --- 2a arable or garden ground belonging late also in occupation of John Tilcock and then of William Hughes Biggleswade - Shortmead Street E Shortmead Street W river N houses formerly of Edward Bray then of John Collison - 7r meadow in Long Mead alias Rhee Mead formerly in occupation of Edward Bray then of William Hughes E commom W river N and S late Lady Bromsall -1a meadow in Back Mead formerly in occupation of Edward Bray and late of William Hughes N late Edward Rudd S Duchess of Marlborough - 2r meadow in Back Mead N Duchess of Marlborough S Viscount Torrington late in tenure of William Hughes At said last Court Denis Herbert surrendered all his property to use of his will. He is now dead leaving George Herbert, merchant, his eldest son. By his will dated 7 July 1803 he devised all his property (except part of an estate at Girtford in Sandy) to said son, chargeable, in repect of personal estate, with funeral expenses and legacies. George Herbert now came into Court and was admitted tenant to above premises Fines - 7s 6?d
