- Admin/biog historyGeorge Hudson was born in Houghton Regis, son of Thomas & Mary. He was baptised on 1st April 1855. He married Martha ------- March Q 1879 at Houghton Regis. 3b 629. They moved to nearby Chalgrave, where the 1881 Census records George as an ‘Inn Keeper & Dealer’. They had a 10 month old son, Arthur , born at Chalgrave. In 1885 the Kelly’s Directory records George Hudson at Stanbridge, as a duck breeder. The 1890 Directory records him as a duck breeder at farmer at Mead Farm. The 1891 Census records the family at the farm, on Billington Road: George Hudson, Head, Married, 36, Farmer, born Houghton Regis Martha Hudson, Wife, Married, 38, born Houghton Regis Arthur T Hudson, Son, 10, Scholar, born Hockliffe (Parish of Chalgrave) Alice M Hudson, Daughter, 9, Scholar, born Hockliffe (Parish of Chalgrave) William Hudson, Son, 8, Scholar, born Hockliffe (Parish of Chalgrave) Lucy Hudson, Daughter, 6, Scholar, born Stanbridge Martha A Hudson, Daughter, 5, Scholar, born Stanbridge George Hudson, Son, 2, born Stanbridge John A Hudson, Son, under 1 month, born Stanbridge [blank] Hudson, Daughter, under 1 month, born Stanbridge Mary Holmes, Servant, Single, 16, General Servant (Domestic) born Northall, Bucks. George Hudson died 5 years later in 1896. The farm and its stock was sold by auction on 25th September the same year. The 1901 Census records Charles Olney as owning the farm. The same census shows that Martha Hudson, Widow was living at Victoria Street in Houghton Regis with her children.Arthur Hudson was a butcher, and William a carpenter.
