Closes of land (Halsey Property), Clapham Declaration of Thomas Grant, Church Farm, Clapham 1 He is 78 and has lived at Clapham for 57 years as a farmer at Church Farm 2 About 40 years ago became tenant of 2 closes in Clapham then belonging to Sarah Halsey or her husband, The Rev John Fitzmoore Halsey in her right. Said 2 closes many years ago formed 3 closes. When he first knew them they were in grass and in occupation of Mr Smith of Bedford, butcher. After whose death they were in tenancy of Mr Hull of Clapham and then of Mr Pool. He succeeded Mr Pool as tenant. 3 Said closes are numbered 84, 85 and 86 on Tithe map and called 'Scotch Closes' (28a 1r 6p). As shown on plan attached to this declaration. 4 Said closes were formerly known as 'The New Pastures' and 'Rushes Closes' and he has no doubt that these are the pieces of land so described in Halsey family muniments of title 5 Has always paid great tithes on said piece of land to Sarah Halsey during her life and since her death to her grandson Thomas Frederick Halsey, Esq., together with the rent of the lands Signed by Thomas Grant Declared before Theed Wm Pearse
