  • Title
Release of rents concerning Hassetts Estate within Newnham Manor between 1) The Honorable Charles Alexander Gore, Commissioner of Her Majesty's Woods, Forests and Land Revenues in Bedfordshire 2) JE of 2 Lewes Crescent, Brighton a) a messuage in Bedford St Paul called the Dragon or Green Dragon, and the pasture and garden ground lying adjacent, containing by estimation 9 acres, commonly known as the Hassetts Estate Recites indenture 1841 between 1) JE and Catherine his wife, and 2) IE, barring dower Recites that the freehold land being subject to an annual rent of 4s 8d and another of 9d to Her Majesty in respect of the Manor of Newnham, CAG now contracts that for £8 2s 6d paid by JE to him, the land shall be free of all rents and manorial claims and demands, and an entry to this purpose should be made by the Keeper of the Inrolments. Attached is a sealed letter from CAG to JE explaining that JE's solicitor had mistakenly included in the deed a rent of 9d which in fact was not applicable, but as this is a trifling amount the letter should be accepted as assurance that no claim for 9d would be made by the Crown, rather than a new deed being drawn up
