FARM ACCOUNT BOOKS. The account books(16 x 10cm approx. format) were kept by George Smith of Westoning (1827-1891). The 1871 census return shows that he farmed 70 acres and employed three men. By the 1881 census he farmed 122 acres and employed five labourers and one boy: the farm is identified as Westoning Farm. The account books chiefly record George Smith's sales of beans, bone-meal, bran, oats and pollards to clients in Westoning, Harlington and Tingrith. The sale of "strikes of Dan", presumably a type of grain, is also recorded repeatedly.
