Luton YHA was formed in 1938 following a good response to a film show and debate organised by the YHA Regional Council. The outbreak of the Second World War disrupted progress but the group reformed in 1942 and drafted its Constitution (X 849/2/1) and continues to the present day. The group organised social evenings, quizzes, rambles, cycle rides and hostelling weekends for young people in Luton.The Annual General Meeting minutes and reports (X 849/2 - 14) give a good account of yearly activities, and subscription registers (X 849/6) show the age and origin of the membership. A photograph album (X 849/10/1) contains views of club room based and hostelling activities from the 1950s - 1970s.
