Letter not in Jennings' handwriting, but addressed from 12 New Boswell Court. "Gresham's Charity It is difficult to say to what amount Mr Austin is ?injured. As observed in my letter of the ?8th February I apprehend he does not claim any portion of the costs of the petitioners estate as the petitioners were not his clients. The second bill is that of the executors and trustees amounting to £30-4-10 and you are one of the executors. Was there any arrangement between you and Mr. Austin as to the costs? The amount of the draft bill sent me by Mr. Austin is 11-19-11 the greater portion about £6 is included in the...costs of.....The only...received for costs are the above, the £140 is made up by the costs paid to Messrs Rodes and Bradley...which we ahve not anything to do. What I would suggest is that you write Mr. Austin and ask that gentleman what costs he experts to be paid. When his reply is received I will go through and see whether the claim is reasonable or not. As to Mr. Austin's observation that "his costs were ...between Mr. Jennings and himself" [all I] can say is that...left to understand what...were to my recollection having any communication upon the subject. The claim made by Mr. Austin is confined to the...£30-4-10 that can be easily adjusted...to deduct the agency...and the pay...the balance is to be divided between you and Mr. Austin or that gentleman take the whole. U.V. Edward ---" At foot in different writing: "There ought not to be any difficulty about the costs and should there be any expression of discourtesy I beg to send you the copy of my letter to Mr. Wing of the 10th inst and if you will say what costs you consider yourself entitled to have paid, I will write Mr.? Gresham."
