Mr Harold G Haxell was born in Luton on 2nd May 1915. He was educated at Luton Modern School and worked as a clerk before training as an aircraft engine fitter at Hendon and Halton and serving with the RAF in Algiers and Austria during World War Two. From 1946 to 1961 he worked as a machine tool engineer for Davis Gas Stove Co. Ltd, Luton. The factory closed in 1962 when the company amalgamated with Radiation Ltd of Yate, near Bristol. Mr Haxell then worked for Vauxhall Motors Ltd, Luton from 1961 until his retirement in 1979.
