Agreement:
(i) Robt. Carey of Woburn, grocer; churchwardens of woburn; Ste. Preston of Woburn, innholder; churchwardens of woburn; Geo. Bosworth of Woburn, saddler; overseers; Jn. Edmonds of Woburn, plumber; overseers;
(ii) Thos. Dean of Leighton Buzzard, workhouseman;
Recites vestry meeting of 21 May 1762;
(i) Will pay £140 p.a. for 3 yrs. qtrly. at the workhouse in the N. end of Woburn; will discharge house rents; will provide for those with smallpox (unless they contract it while in Dean's care); will provide household goods, i.e. beds and bedding, copper, kettles for washing or brewing, barrels and tubs; will remove as soon as possible any who are not legal inhabitants of Woburn, and bear legal costs involved; will provide clothing at their first coming into the workhouse. If children are admitted their parents are to accompany them.
(ii) will maintain the poor now on the overseers' books; will on 3 days a week give them butcher's meat (beef, mutton, pork, veal or lamb); will keep them in as good clothes as when they arrive; will provide fuel; will allow exit to those inhabitants who give a week's notice to churchwardens or overseers; will keep in condition the workhouse "household stuff" (casualty by fire excepted); will lawfully govern the inhabitants, keep them to work, instruct them in reading English and the children in the church catechism, see they attend diving service on the Sabbath Day, and take care they behave themselves; and will not admit anyone not belonging to Woburn;

(ii)Thos. Dean Conditions as before, except that the sum to be paid annually for 3 yrs. is £200; and that the parties bind themselves in the sum of £400 to keep covenants. 25 June 1765.

Further endorsement on X250/3: Jas. Gilbert of Woburn agrees on the same conditions as before; except that the sum to be paid annually for 3 yrs. is £220 p.a.; Gilbert is to deliver a monthly statement; and the churchwardens and overseers agree to pay an extra 25s. for mops, broom, dishes, spoons, ladles, chamber pots, platters, spindles, and all such small utensils.
