Davies, esq.; (directors); Whereas a company was sometime since formed in Bedford under the name of the Bedford Gas Light Company, and whereas premises (see X133/2) have been purchased on behalf of this company, the parties to this deed (or proprietors, who have paid £25 for each of their respective shares) agree to 102 articles of which the following are the chief: The proprietors shall be and continue a company called the Bedford Gas Light Company for 50 years unless dissolved. The capital shall consist of £6,000 (200 shares of £30) and of such further sums as may be raised. The object shall be to manufacture inflamnable air or gas from coal, oil and other materials to light the town of Bedford, and also to prepare and obtain coke, coal, tar, pitch, asphaltum, ammoniacal liquor and to sell and dispose of the same. There shall be a Board of 5 Directors, who must hold 4 shares; with Chairman and Deputy Chairman. It shall be left to the Directors to supply with gas any places whatsoever upon such terms as they shall think fit, and to build such retorts, gasometers, and to lay down such pipes as shall be necessary.
